10 Day Finnish Culture Trip

I see a lot of the information on your site is directed to group activities. Is it plausible for me to want to do a one man trip from Helsinki to Tampere for 10 days?

I would love to experience the Finnish culture, from their foods to cultural history.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Suggestions for a weekend trip near or in Tampere

Hello,

First of all I'd like to commend you for having done up this website so comprehensively! I find it very informative and particularly enjoy the part on the saunas.

My friend and I are heading to Helsinki over the last weekend of March, and initially planned to go up to Rovaniemi; but seeing that we have just a weekend, Tampere might be a better alternative.

I was wondering if you could give us some suggestions on where to stay and what to do if we were to go to Tampere. Are there any chances of seeing the aurora borealis?

As the city itself is quite boring, I would like to find out what nature activities we could do. This would provide a good break from the city life. I for one intend to try the Kaupinoja sauna!

As far as suggestions on where to stay and what to do in Tampere which is along the theme of nature.

Ahh, this is fun! Here is some information dedicated to a weekend trip in Tampere. Most of these are outdoor winter activities, like staying in nature huts.

I would say that your chances of seeing the Aurora lights are much higher up in Rovaniemi then in Tampere.

For one, you are going to need to get out from the city lights on a very clear and cold night. I understand that there is no real science to catching a glimpse of this phenomenon at the right time and place.

In Lapland, there are private organisations which take trips out into the wilderness to seek after the lights. I have yet to discover such a group here in Tampere.
