Finnish pizza restaurants!
After living in Finland for 7 years, I noticed a common pizza "type" served in Finnish pizza restaurants. Once you have tried a few Finnish pizza restaurants, like the Kebab eateries, (many are run by non-Finns), or 'Rax' pizza chains. And if you buy cheap pizzas from a store, you find out there exists a common pizza "type" in Finland. This pizza "type" meets the taste of the locals.
So what is this pizza "type" like? This pizza "type" may not be appealing for those visiting Finland for the first time, nor appeal to all foreigners living in Finland. Many store bought pizzas have a stone-baked 'taste,' so the typical Finnish pizzas have similar crusts, spices and toppings. Cheap pizzas from stores, Kebab restaurants, cheaper large chains like Rax and others have:- doughy, non-firm, somewhat under-cooked and spongy crust
- Some have narrow edged crust.
- Similar quantities and type of spices
- Similar tasting ham cut into small dice, pineapple, and cheeses
Once you eat at one pizza restaurant in Finland, you have tried them all. Well, except when ordering pizza at higher priced restaurants,or buying a more expensive pizza from the store. My preference is a crust that is semi-firm,yet airy and a bit chewy, with stone-baked browned or blackened spots underneath the crust. It should have a slightly 'stone-baked' flavor, with a well spiced (fresh herbs)tomato sauce and a wide variety of toppings.

I grabbed a magazine while waiting for our pizza to come.

Our pizzas arrive after 15 minutes
After our pizzas arrive, Rosa begins eating. Between bitefuls, Tomi says: "Daddy, this is delicious pizza." At the same time, Daddy is taking pictures of the inside of this nice little indoor/outdoor restaurant. Rosa comments, "Daddy, eat Pizza." ...she says over and over. But no...Daddy is busy taking pictures of...

Finally Daddy puts his camera down and tries some of that hot pizza sitting in front of him...and comments, "This pizza is tasty."
Unequaled crust at Makasiini's "best Finnish pizza restaurants in Finland" Makasiini's pizza cust is a bit chewy, slightly bready and has some blackened spots,'tanned' on the bottom side of the crust, which gives it that slightly burned or oven baked taste--brings out the fine balance between pizza filling and crust. The crust is airy, instead of spongy.

Tomi, usually a very picky eater kept commenting: "This is wonderful pizza." And if Tomi is of that opinion then you can be sure you found some great pizza and that at a a price that does not hurt the pocketbook.
And by popular recommendation: for afters, try waffles with ice-cream on top.
